Year 2: Sequel, Daily Runs, Community Pack, Massive Changes

Hey hunters,

Today is our 1-year Anniversary!

It’s been an amazing journey. Since August 18th, 2015, we’ve had 800,000 unique Hunters. We have updated the game 14 times and it more than doubled in size. You have created mods, fan art, and kept this community alive even if it’s a small free game with no big ambitions - until now, that is.

To celebrate this special little game’s birthday, we have prepared many special surprises.

The first one: we are announcing the sequel: “Relic Hunters Legend”. We have been secretly working on it since last year with the help of our new team member Abraão, and we will reveal more in the weeks to come. (Yes, it will have online multiplayer, calm down ^^)

Second surprise: a massive overhaul of Relic Hunters Zero. We are calling it “Year 2” now because so much has changed. You can see the full patch notes below, but the most important changes are a Daily Run mode, a big performance increase, and a redesign of Endless Mode with new features, enemies and balance.

Third surprise (ok, this one is not as much of a surprise): the Community Pack. We’ve been teasing the idea of taking some of the best mods you’ve created and curating them into a slick, “official” package. You seem to really like this idea! Unfortunately we previously had some technical issues related to video memory that made it unfeasible. Now it is not :-)

So we’re happy to announce our upcoming Community Pack #1! If your creation is not featured below, fear not - we will have more packs in the future. Also, if you are just getting into Relic Hunters modding, now is a great time to start - would love to see your work featured on Pack#2!

Changelog - Update 14

*Features*
New "Daily" run for Endless Mode with 6 Ranks (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master);
Major performance optimization: game should run MUCH smoother on systems with low video memory now;
Enemies now have a chance to drop ammo when defeated. Chance increases for equipped weapons' ammo types, and increases further when you are running low on ammo or empty;
Entropy System for Endless Mode: as bad/unlucky things happen during a run, the chance for good things to happen (dig spots, rare item drops, etc) increases;
New enemy: Kami Tank
Kami Elites (the flying ones) redesigned: they are smarter and shoot homing needles now, oh my :O
You can now play Local Co-Op without Friendly Fire (it is turned off by default);
Added a "Friendly Fire" option on the Gameplay Settings menu;
A small arrow now quickly points towards the dig spot when hunting for buried treasure;
Enemies now have a Health/Shield bar visible when they take damage;
Controller Vibration reworked and improved;

*Gameplay*
It is no longer possible to get the same Unique Challenge twice on the same run on Endless Mode (in case you remove it the first time);
Rare Challenges now expire automatically after a few levels (you can see the counter on the Pause Menu);
Prices to Hack both Rare and Common price are now the same;
Prices for Hacking Challenges have been reduced across the board;
All characters' accuracy increased by 50% across the board;
Enemy movement speed increased 20% across the board
Enemy Projectile speeds increased 25% across the board
Enemy projectile damage decreased 25% across the board
"Freeze on kill" time reduced by 50%;
Max Screen Shake reduced by 50%
Screen Shake Recovery is now 30% faster;
Base Shield Regen Start Time reduced from 5 seconds to 2.5 seconds;
Base Shield Regen Charge Speed reduced from 1.0 to 0.25;
"Infinity Battery" relic no longer speeds up Regen Start Time;
"Infinity Battery" relic now provides 400% faster Charge Speed;
Base move speed increased from 4.5 to 5.5
Base sprint speed increased from 6 to 7.5
Base move friction increased from 0.4 to 0.45
Pinkyy's move speed increased from 5 to 6
Pinkyy's sprint speed increased from 6.5 to 8
Pinkyy's aiming speed increased from 3 to 3.5
Red's move speed increased from 5 to 6
Red's sprint speed increased from 7.5 to 8.5
Red's aiming speed is still 4
Biu's move speed increased from 4 to 5
Biu's sprint speed increased from 6 to 7.5
Biu's aiming speed increased from 2.5 to 3
Pinkyy's Gloves' push power reduced from 25 to 20
Push Power reduced by 50% on all shotgun-class weapons
Minigun damage increased from 11 to 14
Relic Minigun damage increased from 16 to 19

*Fixes*
Fixed a bug where controller aim assist would get stuck on explosive boxes or kami cages;
Fixed a bug where Overshield damage would not properly show on the player's mini-health-bar;
Low-performance detector now only automatically disables the "Persistent Objects" feature (not shadows or reflections);
Removed "Controller Sticky Aim" option on the Gameplay Settings menu (it is now always on);

  • Just did the daily challenge but when I died the game frozed

    To the fellow hunters that have not done it yet I will give you a hint:
    You are Pinkyy and the Steroid modifier appears a lot
  • I need to look into this freeze bug... but your score was uploaded, NinSegaBros. You can check your rank by just logging into the daily screen again
  • aw ... download project file from github but I can't run it, said "missing file steam.api" (something like dat) Now I will try to play on steam :D

    Other than that, It's a really cool update!
    So much good news for us all. And the sequel with online multiplayer feature is the best! :3 We modders gonna have so much fun to be creative.

    Hope we got more update about that sequel later!

    I think it is not in the game yet (or unless you need to unlock it somehow) because markventurelli is trying to get in touch with the original creators before it is in.
  • He asked me about Scar before, and I'm suppried that Goku got in this pack too and I'll gradly for he adding my hunters in the pack :3
    Anyway, still trying to fix the steam_api.dll error

    Sorry that it's just me but vanilla is my favourite taste

    And now I'm going to make a whole post about my favourite changes

    Oh. Well nevermind, this should make it much more easier.

    Well that'll make Jimmy less special, unless it affects him too and he shoots machine guns and the minigun like a sniper rifle, in which case I'M IN FOR THAT
    "Freeze on kill time reduced"
    Uhhh...what does that do exactly? Does it prevent wasted damage on overkills and makes shotguns more viable? I THINK that's what it's meant to be...

    HOLY HELL THAT'S AWE-some....

    So basically a buff for normal shields and a nerf for overshields

    So it's basically the same thing as before.
    Biu's move speed increased from 4 to 5
    Biu's sprint speed increased from 6 to 7.5
    Biu's aiming speed increased from 2.5 to 3
    Did he need a buff? I mean, I know everyone got a buff to speed and he should do, it's just that everytime I hear "Biu Buff" I cringe for a bit
    Push Power reduced by 50% on all shotgun-class weapons
    So no more "shotgun and grenade" combos I suppose for the stronger enemies
    Minigun damage increased from 11 to 14
    Relic Minigun damage increased from 16 to 19
    Well, at least it got buffed.
  • I heard some from steam community hub said the game is not much challenge now cause the OP relics that give 100% accuracy. So I thought maybe we should have the effect with cooldown function like ... each shot the accuracy drop down abit, the more U shot, the worse they get. (It's a chip so it should be hot when processing)
  • Haha Biu will get a full rework when I have time. He has been banned from Dailies though, so you can only play him on your own lonesome self :)
  • Two questions:
    1. Are those so luckily auto-generated for things like accuarcy + shotgun to happen or do you somehow influence them?
    2. If the latter, will we get to play as A.S.S.?
  • Biu doesn't reflect the new homing needles from the flying enemies. Is this intended?
  • Hi, I did the Chrome Commander and other pistols. I responded on the Steam post of this.

    Thanks for including those pair of pistols in the Community Pack, feel free to use any of the other stuff you find in my sprite gallery.

    The game is just grow slowly cause there is only Mark doing all the stuffs, I think.
    There still some bugs, got frozen screen when dead in daily mode, endless mode (didn't try adventure mode yet) So wanna help him with the bug but I'm not so much a coder. (still gonna try to look at it)
    Hope there are some coders can help kill those bugs.

    P/s: now I notice that our slot machine still didn't get in the community pack yet @camerox still hope he consider it next time.
  • Slot Machine and Sacrifice table are great ideas, but I will delay them a little bit because I'm still figuring out how to improve the economy and difficulty balance in Endless mode!

  • I'm having a bug whenever I launch the game and go on the title menu, There is a black screen with a bunch of white numbers. The audio is fine though. Can you find a way to fix that please?

    I read on the steam that they want Red to changed a bit because they feel like she is overpower like biu, but there are down side to using her:

    1) She gets a bounty debuff

    2) Her kamis summons
    a) If you don't keep an eye out on your grenade count, it will use your health instead
    b) They are good early in the game but in later loops they don't do so well
